A Brief report on googles new motorola acquisition. கூகிள் நிறுவனம் மோட்டோரோலா நிறுவனத்தை கையகப்படுத்தியது ஏதோ எதேட்சையாகவோ அல்லது நீண்ட காலம் திட்டமிட்டோ நடந்தது அல்ல. இது எதிர்காலத்தில் எந்த ஒரு எதிரியும் முளைத்துவிடக்கூடாது என்பதற்காக எடுக்கப்பட்ட முடிவு. இதைப்பற்றி விரிவாகப் பார்ப்பதற்கு முன் ஒரு சிறிய தகவலை கேளுங்கள்.

Nortel Networksனு ஒரு கனடிய(canada) நிறுவனம். தொலைதொடர்பு துறையில் கொடிகட்டிய இந்நிறுவனம் 2009ல் திவால் ஆனது. இதனிடம் சுமார் 6000 காப்புரிமைகள் இருந்தன இதற்காக அனைத்து நிறுவனங்களும் போட்டியிட்டன நம்ம கேடி கூகிளும் தான் . ஆனால் பங்காளி தகராறில் Microsoft + Apple இருவரும் மற்ற சில நிறுவனங்களுடன் கூட்டு சேர்ந்து $4.5billion (4500000000000$) பணம் கொடுத்து கூகுளை பின் தள்ளியது. இந்த போட்டியில் பெரிய சுவாரசியம் என்ன வென்றால் ஏலத்தில் எதிர்பார்த்தது $1 billion வந்ததோ ஐந்து மடங்கு அதிகம். இப்பொழுது தெரிகிறதா அடியில் ஆணி வைத்தார்களா அல்லது கடப்பாறையா என்று.

In spite of the tablet avalanche, a number of other gizmos and technologies were able to rise above the din and capture attention. The Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft's ( MSFT - news - people ) Surface, the next generation of the software giant's table-top computer, wowed the CES crowd. True, it might be the world's biggest iPad, but it's still impressive, boasting a 40-inch HD 1080p touch-screen for optimal Web surfing and info sharing, and the top is coated with Corning's ( GLW - news - people ) rugged Gorilla glass. Samsung SUR40 also has something called PixelSense, technology that gives LCD panels the power to see without the use of cameras," Microsoft says. Uh huh.

Skype To Feature Apps

Apps have now become crucial to our internet experience. From mobile phones to the browser, if you want to do anything , there is app for that! Skype launched its own version of an App Store recently.

Skype, the popular video calling and chatting service which was acquired by Microsoft a while back, has always had third party plugins which helped accentuate the experience.  With this new feature called ‘App Directory’ they have now integrated the third-party plugins directly into the Skype Client.

This will make it simple for users who can try these third party apps directly from the client itself.

There are 23 featured apps now on this app directory. It is not a big number, but if a lot of people get onto the app bandwagon, they are bound to increase. The apps consist of both paid and non-paid applications. The applications available right now are business apps, call recording and video conferencing tools.

The UI of the App is pretty simple and contains a search tab which lets you browse through all the applications easily. To ensure good quality of apps, features like user ratings and information are displayed when you click on any app. The best part about this new feature is that you can upload your own applications onto the App Directory. If you are a developer then this feature will be fun to try out.

Skype is hugely popular among people no matter how internet savvy they are and this will help the number of third party applications increase.

Indian Railways On The Right Track: Online Portal Coming Soon

Indian Railways is taking slow and sure steps in improving the users experience. The irctc.co.in had been a major step and even though far from perfect it still makes lives easier for many a traveler and railway employees while ensuring a smooth business. Important news coming in from the Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) of the Indian Railways is that the railways will re-launch its web portal – a hub for 35 Indian Railway website currently live.

This is to make booking tickets online easier. Planning a journey and even book retiring rooms through the internet will be facilities provided to all travelers. The telephone number 132 has been taken over by Northern Railway for the purpose of web facilitation. It is to be an all-India number with accessibility from all mobiles and landlines across the country.

After the launching of the portal, passengers can Dial 132 for lodging complaints against railway services. All complaints which are presently being received on SMS either on 9717630982 or on 57886 shall be received later on at the three digit number. This year itself, Indian Railways had introduced Mobile Ticketing Solution and e-ticket service. Users were able to book their ticket via their mobile phone while they were on move. IRCTC also rolled out In-Compartment infotainment systems.

The portal will offer services to the rail users for freight services which includes information to the customer about the rakes. This will also provide facility for tracking rakes through portal. Furthermore, on the parcel service front, the portal will provide information about the parcel rules, parcel charges calculator, parcel rates and parcel tracking information also.

India Plans Its Own OS – Reason: Security Concerns

Indian government is planning to develop its own Operating System. It is being termed as a futuristic computer Operating System. This project would be spearheaded by DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) in partnership with software companies in and around Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi as also academic institutions like Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and IIT Chennai, among others. DRDO would be putting in place a dedicated team of 50 software professionals in the Bangalore and Delhi software development centers to accomplish the task. DRDO has also put in place a “complete framework” on the proposed commercial arm, which is currently in the process of securing necessary government approvals and is expected to be operational next year.

Objective

India can own the source code and architecture. India won’t have to rely on Western operating systems which it thinks aren’t competent enough to thwart cyber attacks. The OS would be hack-proof and would prevent sensitive data from being stolen. This OS is needed to protect India’s economic framework.

Our Thoughts

We admire India for taking up such an ambitious project and hope that DRDO which has taken up the responsibility to complete this complex task is able to execute this project successfully. Though on a use case front would you use an Indian OS?
